Rosanna F. DeMarco, PhD, APRN,BC, ACRN, Associate Professor William F. Connell School of Nursing at Boston College (CSON) Dr. DeMarco received her BS in nursing from Northeastern University, MS in nursing with a specialization in Community Health from Boston College, and a PhD in Nursing Science from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. Dr. DeMarco has been community health clinical nurse specialist for over 30 years. She is also a researcher and associate professor at CSON whose program of scholarship includes the study of women, marginalizing, and health behaviors with special emphasis on the concept and outcome measure of "silencing the self" in women of color living with HIV and nurses in the workplace. She has a 10-year history of funded research in these areas and has over 30 publications in national and international practice and research journals. She is the recent recipient of the Alumni Award of Excellence in Health at Boston, College and the Massachusetts Association of Registered Nurses Research Award.
In 2004 she co-produced an HIV prevention intervention film called Women?s Voices Women?s Lives©. The film features four HIV+ women talking about their experiences living with HIV and is considered a prevention intervention tool for teens and women. It is also a teaching tool for health care providers. The film was recognized by the American Academy of Nursing in 2005 with a media award and has been adopted by several local AIDS service agencies in the area including the AIDS Bureau of the Massachusetts Department of Health. It is also being used in other HIV prevention areas across the country and was just translated in Vietnamese and Spanish language.
She is a member of the Board of Directors of Hospice Incorporated in Stoneham, MA in conjunction with the Visiting Nurse Association of Boston and Women of Color AIDS Council (Women Connecting and Affecting Change- WCAC) in Dorchester, MA. She is also a practicing community health clinical specialist volunteer at WCAC?s women?s drop-In center where she practices Reiki therapy along with other clinical nurse specialist assessments. Rosanna's commitment and dedication to HIV/AIDS in communities of color is immeasurable.

Stella Safo is our newest volunteer intern from Harvard University. She researched and secured a small grant from Harvard to implement the youth version of Women's Voices Women's Lives at several high schools in the Dorchester and Roxbury area. Stella has been an asset to the WCAC team who has extended our reach into the community to provide prevention and education to youth at risk. She has secured links in the various schools in order to continue our work with at risk females.
